Case Study: How Tangerine benefited from using E-qual Electronic Portfolio.

Who are they?

Tangerine are leaders in Driver Quality Monitoring Assessments, providing NVQ and BTEC based qualifications approved by Edexcel, EDI and GoSkills, and are an approved centre for Drivers CPC Periodic Training.

Their clients include First London, First Hampshire and Dorset, First Devon and Cornwall, Transdev London United, Ipswich Buses, East Thames Buses, Lothian Buses, Metroline, Nottingham City Transport and Arriva The Shires.

What was their requirement?

Tangerine needed a platform to deliver an NVQ based training scheme for a large bus operator, with more than 250 candidates.

How did E-qual Electronic Portfolio help?

Tangerine found an immediate cost saving in the reduction of paperwork having to be printed and the effort in having to mark and assess in each location. Assessors were able to focus on more candidates work and manage portfolios more effectively and efficiently, using E-qual.

The process of storing and then assessing candidate work was made far easier and more robust using the online system.

Their IV and Programme leader claimed that “It helped enormously to be able to view all portfolio evidence in one location. Being able to give feedback immediately and then review it at a later stage without having to trawl through countless paperwork saved huge amounts of assessor and IV time.”

What was the feedback from their users?

Both assessors and candidates felt that the online system provided a secure and robust method of both storing and assessing evidence. The use of videos and audio files, which could then be downloaded for review and assessment, made assessors feel more comfortable that the evidence met the criteria for all candidates.

EVs also appeared to like the facility to logon remotely and could review evidence and provide feedback.

What did they think?

Simon Payne, the Training Director and Programme Leader for the NVQ programme felt that he was “able to promote the programme with a credible storage and assessment facility, and support my assessment team from whatever location I was working.”

He said “It also provided Tangerine with an additional ‘edge’ over other providers who are still using paper-based portfolios.“
